Athletics And Athletics Reflection

Athletics
By Inderpreet

We arrive at the sports park ready for athletics, we grab our stuff and leave the bus. All the other classes except for room 18 and 19 were there. We sat down somewhere still thinking about the bulldog that was at Parkvale...

“If you have to go to the toilet go now,” says Mrs. Roil. Me and a few other boys run to the toilets, then suddenly a random bulldog comes out of no where and starts chasing us. It went around where the school map was and hid there. I left and checked for the dog, I couldn’t see him but I didn’t take the risk of turning my back and I just boosted it to class. I sat down and the dog ran into class again.
“STAY STILL!” says Mrs Roil, but everyone is doing the opposite. I kept on moving away from the dog whenever it looked like it was coming towards me. Mrs Roil finally got the dog out of the class. Mrs Roil started telling us that it was unsafe to pat or touch a dog like that.
“YEAH! Because it might have rabies!” I heard someone say, everyone began cracking up.

We walked to the front field, the bus was nearly back, and so was the dog. Everyone from room 18 and 19 were patting it, Mr. Woon showed up with a rope. The dog ran away into the distance (around the corner...). The bus finally showed up. We screamed in joy and once again the dog showed up! It started charging straight towards Elijah and I. I braced for impact (and started panicking inside), the dog came close and went around me and Elijah and ran onto the road.

We hop onto the bus, we see it running down the road and then turn to the right side of Windsor Ave. The bus finally left and we were on our way to the sports park, we turned to the right side of Windsor Ave and saw the dog running down the foot path, everybody started laughing out loud
“LOL!” yelled Teva who was right next to me (and he didn’t say it like L, O, L, as separate letters, he said it like lol!). We passed it, we saw it went into a dairy! It then came out and crossed the road, it really was a smart dog because it looked both ways before crossing.

(15 Minutes LATER!)

We get into our year lines (I was in year 6 boys), our first event was the 50 metre hurdles.     We get split into lines of 6. The whistle blew and I was of. I was coming first but the others are starting to pass me, I jump over my last hurdle and try not to come last but it was already too late.
“What place did you come?” Asks Daniel.
“Last, what about you?” I reply.
“Last. At least we tried and got points for our houses right,” Daniel replies.
“Yeah,” I say.

We head over to our the next event, the 100 metre run. It was more of a competitive race now. I was thinking before that I didn’t want to do the 100 metre run. Daniel and I noticed that the track was quite short but still kinda long.
“Let’s do this,” I say to Daniel. He agrees and we get put into our lines.
“TAKE YOUR MARK... GET SET... AND GO!” Yells Miss Hill. I race of, I was beginning to come last, but I didn’t want to let that happen again, I push myself and race in front of Marshal (who was in front of me), I pass Marshal and was ahead of him by about a metre, just than Marshal tripped over and landed hard on the ground, I felt like I should help him, but he pulled himself up and continued running, we reach the finish line and I came second to last (6th... or 7th). I was still proud of my self. I didn’t come first but I still got points for my house (Hoiho).

We head over to our next event-BUT FIRST! We head over to our bags and eat Late Morning Tea/Early Lunch.

30 Minutes LATER

We walk over towards the softball throw. Miss Paki was the teacher for that event.
“You can have a practice round first if you want,” Says Miss Paki. We have our practice round I nearly got it past the first cone but it didn’t make it. Same thing happened with Daniel. We finally got our real go and I threw the ball with all my might.
“IT’S GONNA MAKE, IT’S GONNA MAKE! It didn’t make it!” I say. The ball nearly made it past the first cone but once again it didn’t. I was disappointed but still pleased that I got points for my house. I headed towards Miss Paki to get my score and I got a one like Daniel, like I said I was just proud to get points for my house.

Our next event was the high jump. It was finally my turn and I didn’t make it over, I knocked the bar down like a few other people. I sat down with the other people who knocked it down.

2 Minutes LATER!

Once again it was my turn. I nearly made it over but I failed. After it was all over I got my score from Miss Joll. I got a one like I did on every other event.

It was now the 200 metre run. Something I was sure I didn’t want to do. All the boys sat down in front of Mr. Gifkins. He started telling us that we have to do it and we can’t sit this one out. I was forced to do this so I thought I should actually try and win it. I was in the first race. The whistle was blown and I raced off. I wasn’t having such a good time. It was already half done and I could see the finish line. Once again I was facing Marshal, I knew this was a race that I can’t lose, no more losing.
“AHHH!” I yell, i went beyond my natural speed, I went faster than what I usually would have gone, I pushed myself to my limit and ran way in front of Marshal. I was nearly at the finish line I nearly passed the person who was in front of me but I couldn’t. Just like in the hundred metre run I came second to last. I got one point and sat down.

We now walked over to our last event, the long jump. We get granted a practice jump. It was my turn and I ran as fast as I could (not as fast as the 200 meter run) and jumped onto the sand pile that was in front of me. When I landed I couldn’t stop walking but when I did I went back into the line for my actual jump.

2 Minutes Later!

It was my turn once again and I ran and jumped as far as I could. I was really proud because I made it past half way (and it was a long pile). I got a 2, my first 2 for my last score. Most people got a 2, and the people who got a 3 went into the finals.

1 Hour LATER!

The buses arrived and we were ready to leave. Some people even competed in a 800 meter run. I was too tired and couldn’t do it. My final score was 7 and I was ready too just go home lie in bed and rest... And then the dog came back into my mind...

Here Is a Reflection about Athletics day.

Something I was pleased with was that I didn’t back out of any challenge (except for 800 metre run which really wasn’t one of the challenges).
Because I really pushed myself and did good.

Something I enjoyed was the 200 metre run.
Because I just thought it was fun, plus I really pushed myself to not come last in that.

Something I enjoyed learning was how good are my skills.
Because I found out that i was actually quite good.

Something I found hard was the high jump.
Because I couldn’t land on my feet or back and the bar kept on falling.

Something I want to get better at is the high jump
What can I do about it? Practice jumping higher.

Mathletics

Something I enjoyed was Doing all the different designs and combining them to make my own Mathletics design.
Because It was fun, the designs amazed me and I only get to do this once every year.

Something I was proud of was That I was able to complete all the mathletics designs I did.
Because They were a little tricky, the trickiest was design 15 (I think)

Something I was pleased with was How well my design turned out and how effective it looked.
Because Last year it was good but didn’t turn out so well.

Something I found hard was Thinking and drawing my own design.
Because I was under pressure because it had to be finished by Friday (the 1st of November).

Something that made me think was Are all my lines straight and measured properly.
Because If it wasn’t I wouldn’t get picked.

Something I want to get better at I want to get better at coloring in my design.
What can I do about it Maybe when I’m coloring across a an edge of a line I can put a ruler on the edge so it doesn’t go of the line.

This is my finished design, I gave up my lunch (I wanted to stay in and finish) to finish this because it was due that day (Friday the 1st of November), I spent 1 day thinking of my design, and 1 day drawing and coloring it, I even spent our whole library session doing this after I had issued my books. So I hope you like it and please comment :-D.

My Report By Inderpreet

My year so far in Room 16 by Inderpreet

My favourite thing about being in Room 16 in 2013 was going to Camp Kaitawa and being in a digi class.

Something I would like to do in term four is Go to year 6 camp and go safe cycling on the road because I was at India last year so I couldn't do it.

Something I would like to do next year is come back to Parkvale for a visit if it’s a half day at Havelock Intermediate.

My dream job would be becoming an artist (maybe a teacher if not a artist).

Reading

The best thing about reading so far this year is Actively Learn.

The best thing I read this year was HATCHET by Gary Paulsen.(link). I enjoyed it because we did a literacy circle with it.

This is my favourite reading blog post (link) that I created. I chose it because I enjoyed writing it, It was to the author of my favourite book this year and it also has the trailer that me and the group I was in made.

This is my favourite reading post from someone else (Hemani). I think it is awesome because she presented it well, explained what a literacy circle is and stated her opinions about it (in a way she did).

Maths

The best thing about maths so far this year is the tests we had in term 3.

I was most proud of learning (link).I was proud because

This is my favourite maths blog post (link) that I created. I chose it because it shows how good I am at math and shows that I enjoy math, those tests were awesome.

This is my favourite maths post from someone else (Teva). I think it is awesome because he presented it great, he showed his scores out of 25 and his percentages out of 100

I am really good at multiplication.
I want to get better at adding fractions.

Writing

The best thing about writing so far this year is all the different and cool writing prompts.

I was most proud of learning how to take a simple writing prompt and make it into my own original, funny and really good piece of writing. This is one example;
Click here to see example. I was proud because it made me a really good writer.

This is my favourite writing blog post (link) that I created. I chose it because it is very popular it shows how good of a writer I can be and it got 9 comments in 1 comment session (by the way it is the final episode before the season finale, here is a link to my Thunder Skull page on my blog, it has all the post.

This is my favourite writing post from someone else (Tyrone). I think it is awesome because it has a lot of creativity it is pretty funny, it’s long and has a good amount of detail and is a awesome story.

I am really good at making funny and creative stories
I want to get better at writing longer stories.

Integrated Topic

My favourite part of topic has been learning to respect other cultures
(link to one example) (my class got India) I enjoyed it because we got to do things we couldn’t do in other topics (cooking, making trailers and dancing in them, and more).

This is my favourite topic blog post (link) that I created. I chose it because it shows how good i am at drawing and it shows all about my family.

This is my favourite topic post from someone else (Elijah). I think it is awesome because the science was really cool and this explains it clearly, it is also well written.

Reflection for Optimist Yachting And Kayaking

Reflection for Optimist Yachting And Kayaking
Something I was pleased with was that I had a great time, because it makes me more excited for the next session.
I really enjoyed learning how to hold a paddle properly when kayaking because it helps the kayak go alot faster.

Something I found hard was controlling the mainsheet rope because I had to know where the boat would go and if the wind had changed directions.
Something that made me think was why did me and my buddies (Zach) yacht keep on tipping to the side and nearly capsizing because it was really freaky and we didn’t know what to do.
Something I want to get better at is sailing the optimist yacht.

(What can I do about it?)
Learn how to control the mainsheet rope.

here is a GoAnimate I made. I hope you like it.

Camp Reflection

Reflection for Camp

My goal for camp was: To complete every challenge that came my way.

I achieved this because: I did not give up or  think I couldn’t do it.

Something I was pleased with was: Not missing out on anything & completing every challenge.

Because: I have barely done the stuff I did at camp, & there was never 1 moment where I didn’t have fun.

I really enjoyed learning: How to have a great time in the outdoors.

Because: I have never done what I did at camp before, except for a few events.
Something I found hard was: walking long walks.
Something that made me think was: giving up, or not? Doing this, or not? Also deciding what to do, “Lou’s look out” or the “Burma-Trail”?

Because: I had to think of my safety, or having fun? And I had to decide how to end the FINAL night of camp.
· My top 5 favourite things about camp were:

Favourite Things
Reason Why
1. The Confidence Course.
It was really challenging but fun.
2. The Amazing Race
There was so much running & thinking & we had so much fun.
3. Rope Challenge/Caving.
I had so much fun doing it & the caves were a challenge, so that made it even more fun.
4. MasterChef.
My team won & we had so much fun.
5. Rock Hopping.
It was a awesome & fun experience.

My fave pic from camp:
Because: At this point, I had completed every single thing that had happened at camp, other than the Burma-Trail, which was going to happen later that night (& there are no photo's of the Burma-Trail).

I hope you liked this & please comment :-).

Karamu High Rock Climbing
Reflection.
Week 2!

Something I enjoyed was: Climbing the wall.
Because: I haven’t done it in a long time (other than week 1).

I really enjoyed learning: How to belay.
Because: Because I’ve only done it once in my life.

Something I found hard was: Learning were to put my feet to get higher.

Something that made me think was: How to get better at belaying.

Something I want to get better at is: Getting higher.
What can I do about it: Never give up.

Walkathon Reflection

Check out my "Walkathon" Certificate

Camp Kaitawa Walkathon:
Reflection.

Something that I was pleased with was: That I walked the whole thing without stopping or falling to the ground, even though I was kinda slow I didn’t give up, neither did the whole team. (Well Marcus did fall to the ground like 3 times, so... yeah).
Because: I was wasting a lot of energy keeping up with my team. I have never done anything like this before so I was really pleased with myself & the team, & whenever I got slow they wouldn’t keep going they would always wait.

I really enjoyed learning: How to make a chant it was really fun & everyone got to put a idea of their own. Now I know how “house leaders” feil.
Because: It wasn’t made by one person it was made by the whole team & that i’ve only had the opportunity to make a chant or a song like 9 times in my life.

Something I found hard was: Walking the whole thing... TWICE! It made my legs so sor, & the moment I sat down I didn’t want to get up.

Something that made me think was: Picking the two colours for our logo, everyone had different suggestions & i think we still haven’t picked the second colour yet!

Something I want to get better at is: Walking faster, that is the only thing I want to get better at, walking faster.
What could I do about it: Walk a little at home in my free time.
